What is METABOLIC SYNDROME?

METABOLIC SYNDROME

PRELIMINARY
Metabolic syndrome is a collection of symptoms of various cardiometabolic risk factors including overweight (overweight), central obesity, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, dyslipidemia, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which occurs together, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. The meaning of metabolism here means biochemical processes, while risk factors are lifestyle or conditions that increase the risk of getting this disease. A person is said to be in a metabolic syndrome state if he has at least some conditions, namely high blood pressure, obesity, abnormal blood fat levels, and also low levels of HDL or good cholesterol.

CAUSE
The basic disorder is insulin resistance. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that helps control the amount of sugar in the bloodstream. Insulin resistance is found in most patients with Metabolic Syndrome. Usually, the digestive system breaks down food eaten into sugar (glucose). Blood carries glucose to body tissues, where cells use it as fuel. Glucose enters cells in the body with the help of insulin. In people with insulin resistance, cells do not respond normally to insulin, and glucose cannot enter cells easily. As a result, blood glucose levels increase and the results are higher than normal levels of insulin in the blood. This can eventually cause diabetes when the body cannot make enough insulin to keep blood glucose within the normal range. Even if the glucose level is not high enough to fall into the category of diabetes, the level of glucose can still be dangerous. This condition is called prediabetes. Increased insulin resistance raises triglyceride levels and other blood fat levels. It also disrupts the work of the kidneys, causing high blood pressure. The combined effect of insulin resistance places on the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other conditions. Insulin resistance may involve various genetic and environmental factors. Some people may be genetically susceptible to insulin resistance.

COMPLICATION
Having metabolic syndrome can increase the risk of developing this condition: Diabetes: if it does not control insulin resistance, glucose levels will continue to increase causing diabetes. Cardiovascular disease (CVD): High cholesterol and high blood pressure can contribute to plaque buildup in the arteries. This plaque can cause the arteries to harden and narrow, which can cause a heart attack or stroke.
